Google Books = yay?

Google Books = yay?

More and more of the old books I like to use are becoming available on Google books. I like this, in that most of them cost our ILL people (hence my department) $15-$35 each. But I don't like having to be tied to my computer. And I am not looking forward to having to justify my BL trips on other grounds ("But I need the hard copies, dammit!"). Still, if you're looking for a way to quickly check some of the classics of Ortsnamen- und Personennamenkunde, you may find them on Google books...

ETA: Well, it would be a whole lot cooler if I didn't keep getting pages that said "Image Not available"

"Image not available" is what justifies the trips to the BL : )

I'd just like to know that "image not available" generated an automatic demand to rescan the book - because otherwise the service will be less useful. Useless?

This is great to hear. I also find Google Books good for knowing if it is worth the effort and expense to use ILL . . . .
