Let the panic begin

Well, I leave for London in two days. I have promised to finish my admin stuff Real Soon Now -- and that really means by the end of next week. I also promised a group of fairly intimidating women scholars that I would submit my paper from Berks to an Actual Journal by the end of next week. In the meanwhile, I am beginning to panic about my Leeds paper and why the hell I thought it would be a good idea. Just kill me now.

At least I will be in the place of peace that is the BL by Tuesday...

In the meantime, I am trying to get together my life, my house, and denying it all by watching Season One of Being Human.

This happens to me every time I go away for a long trip. FWIW, I now know that what gets done, gets done, and what doesn't doesn't. Not once has the world come to an end because of something I didn't finish. (Though I always took care of the cats) Not very profound, but helpful to remember when you are in the pre-trip panic!

Sometimes TV is the only option! Wishing you an easy completion of the admin responsibilities and Leeds paper. Remember, the Leeds paper builds on all that you already know and you know a LOT about this.

This is true ( to all of you). Basically, I have the most important things mostly done. I need to get my reimbursement stuff in today, and pick up some things, but I think I may have managed to tame the noxious weed in the front (Japanese Knotweed -- now covered with black plastic and by tomorrow, mulch, to bake it for the next five or so years, I think). I think it would bake better without the mulch, but the neighbors might complain about the huge amount of plastic...

Echoing what the others have said and just chiming in to say this is me before every trip, ever.

Right there with ya - got an e-mail from a Fairly Important Person (FIP) a week ago Friday asking me to put together a 40-minute presentation for a mixed group of FIP's and VIP's (at state government level anyway). I know the topic and can do a good job, if I can find the time. Friday I got an e-mail that my proposal for a paper at a Conference in early August had been accepted. The abstracts were due March 15 which brings me to wonder why it took 3 months to decide. All this with a week in DC conversing in Politician, this coming week spent teaching a bunch of kids about GIS/GPS at a daycamp, and the first two weeks of July absolutely booked for another activity. In the meantime, the guy I promised a series of short (1,000-2,000 word) articles to is starting to make noise about me actually doing something beyond outlines. And I have all of my usual stuff with the job to take care of. Am I griping about something I have only myself to blame for? You bet.

I'll get it done one way or another, same as you. And it's nice to have people wanting to hear what you have to say. Have a safe trip.
