thinking about moving

So hi there, everybody. Because I am not happy with how Google keeps merging my identities, I am going to have to do one of two things, I think. Either I try to get a gmail account as ADM that is separate from my RL ID, or I move the blog to Wordpress (I think WP will let me have two different IDs for the same email, but if not, I'll just have to check two email accounts more regularly).

so if you have advice on importing a blogspot archive, please let me know. I will be pondering this.

The multiple email accounts thing works reasonably well. As long as you don't mess with profiles and G+, of course.

Speaking of multiple IDs, did you comment on my blog under a different ID, or is there another academic in the world with your first name and the exact spelling of your last name? (Which I can see on my end in the e-mail address associated with that account -- other people can't.)

But back to your question, yes, you can have more than one gmail account. Dr. Virago has one and my real-life ID has one. And what I did was set up my G+ profile with my real life gmail, while my old Blogger blog is under Dr. Virago's e-mail, as is my new WordPress blog. I set up that WordPress blog precisely so I could stay logged in as Real Me on G+ and use Dr. Virago/Quod She's WordPress ID to sign into blogs. I just have to be careful on Blogger blogs not to be sure to use the Open ID/WordPress sign-in and not the default Google sign-in, since Real Me is always signed in to Google! And also, there's a teaching-related Blogger blog associated with the Real Me Gmail/Google Profile.

Meanwhile, importing is easy -- WordPress does it all for you. The only problem I've seen is that it doesn't import all the video (but it does import pictures). But that may be because YouTube links are broken. Of course, if anyone has linked to the old blog, that still goes to the old blog -- so I left mine up for that reason.

Oh, and also, this is a minor thing, but it bugs me. You'll see that I'm commenting as "quodshe" because the Open ID system on Blogger blogs seems to insist on using the URL name as your publicly display named and there doesn't seem to be a way of changing that. I'm only "Dr. Virago" on WordPress and TypePad blogs (I also just set up a TypePad account just for commenting).

Er, make that "I have to be careful on Blogger blogs to be sure to use the Open ID...sign in," not "not to be sure." D'oh!

I have multiple gmail accounts, and post on blogs/have blogs under both my personal and pseudonymous self. Trouble I've had is accidentally posting as the wrong personality.

My solution: I use Firefox for most things, so I stay logged into my Digger gmail account in Firefox. I log into my other gmail identity using Internet Explorer. Because the browsers use different cookie files, it works. This also works for managing two Facebook profiles.

I'm not ready yet for Google+...

I have multiple (*count* three!) gmail addresses - I set the two blog-related ones up to forward through to my 'personal' one (and both my work emails do likewise). That works pretty well for me - I don't have to remember to check multiple accounts. I've also set gmail to automatically select, in replies, the account to which the email was first sent; I just need to be careful, when sending emails out of the blue, to select the right identity.

I have a Wordpress version of the Blog, and I have been impressed with what you can do on that host. Importing from Blogger is easy - or has been until recently, of late comments and the actual contents of posts don't seem to be transferring! Where the problem lies there - at Blogger or wordpress I don't know. I think having two IDs for different blogs is no problem. I'm still not sure whether to move all activity on HotE to that site. I am actually innately conservative (with a small c)!

Oh FFS. That's me. See, that's why I worry about a wordpress blog -- Because I have one (two, if you count the private one). And if I forget to change the ID...

gaa.

ADM -- Heh. Well, at least I know someone isn't impersonating you! :) Yeah, with multiple IDs, you have to be careful before hitting send/post, no matter where the blogs or e-mails are hosted!
