Hello, all --
For those going to the International Medieval Congress at Leeds next week, Jonathan Jarrett and Magistra et Mater are organising a bloggers'meetup. This will be 6-8 pm, Stables Pub at the Weetwood site on Tuesday 12th July. For anyone who has not met any of us before, Magistra will be the tall middle-aged woman with short brown hair, glasses and a faintly bemused look. Jon has long black hair and will be talking enthusiastically. I am the medium-sized (I suppose -- not particularly tall, nor short, nor thin, but not actually plump), middle-aged (because I am certainly older than Magistra and Jon), and blonde with a sort of bob-pageboy haircut, likely in something brown-and-white or black-and-white and skirt-ish.

Berks, round two
So, it's been an marvelous Berks! Despite a lack of pre-modern stuff, there are lots of cool pre-modernists here. My paper went well, I think, and Janice gave a great paper, as did pretty much every person I know! I've seen a bunch of papers so far, including one on Chinggis Khan, one on medieval Islamic law, one on Medici women...
I've met up with lots of old friends, had dinner with Impressive Medievalists, including Extremely Cool Colleague, and some new ones. Met Knitting Clio, Cliotropic, and saw Belle, Tanya, Clio's Disciple, Clio Bluestocking, and Tenured Radical. Really missed Historiann, but am happy Madeleine is ok.
So, yay for another great Berks (more pre-modern, please!!) and tomorrow? home and more work. Apparently, I am submitting two papers to journals by the end of the summer. Eep!

Alternate Kalamazoo Thursday Dinner
Well, it looks like there is a Thursday p.m. talk I want to go to -- a couple of papers on things Fulda-ish, including Albrecht Diem talking about Lul (I think). So I think I will likely ditch the EM dinner. Anybody want to join me?
UPDATE: I may not be able to cancel the EM dinner plan after all, unless someone is willing to take my seat. I don't really want to pay for a meal I don't eat, and I'm not willing to stick the organizer with my costs.
Fingers crossed there are more people who want to go but haven't arranged.

Zoo Meetup reminder
Hello, all --
Here is a reminder that the post about the Kalamazoo Blogger meet-up is here.
Also -- early medievalist types: I have tentatively responded "yes" to the Thursday night dinner. But I have to go to the SMFS dinner on Saturday, too. That means only Wednesday and Friday night dinners free. If anybody is interested in a breakaway dinner on Thursday somewhere more convenient and less pricey (because face it, it's going to be a minimum of $50 after drinks), please say so!

New Space, no thanks to Blogger
Ok, I'm back up and running, having spent way too much time trying to recreate my blogroll, because stupid Blogger lost it when my template mysteriously disappeared.
AAARGH.
Please do let me know if you like or hate the new look -- and please pass the word about the Kalamazoo Meet-up (information HERE)
Also, speaking of the Zoo, is anybody going to the Early Medievalists' Dinner?

What the hell???
What happened to my blog, dammit?
ETA: OK, site construction now happening. Going to have to re-design. Bugger.
Update: New look for now -- anybody know how to get the picture to go across the top of the page?

Blogger meetup?
Blogger Meetup at Zoo?
Hey all -- have we organized this yet?
Because there needs to be at least one official blogger meetup at the Zoo. I'm happy to organize, if no one else has (although I'm guessing it will be the usual Friday morning at the coffee place?)
LET ME KNOW, MY BLOGPEEPS!
Also, I will blog something of substance soon on my year of isolation.

Don't forget -- Mug Shots, 8:00 a.m., Friday. More information here -- leave a comment here or there if you think you're coming and haven't said yet -- it's looking like we'll have to grab lots of tables and chairs!

Kalamazoo Blogger Meet-up
Kalamazoo Blogger Meet-up
I am so behind on reading blogs. So I kind of missed this the first time around. But if you go over to Medieval Woman's blog, details are there. It looks like Friday morning at 8 in the coffee shop whose name we can't remember in whichever Valley it is. The one where we always meet. Considering how many of us there are these days, we it's a good idea to get there early, though (unless it opens at 8?), because we always end up begging for chairs and tables.

Meetup over
Meetup Accomplished
OK -- this is way too funny. I'm blogging this from the computer bank in Fetzer, where someone who logged on earlier had logged on and looked at this site to find out where the meetup was! Attendees were Steve Muhlberger, Ancarett, New Kid, Tiruncula, Dr. Virago, Dame Eleanor, meg, MacAllister Stone, Digital Medievalist, and Lisa Carnell (I don't think I left anybody out). Scott Noakes showed up at the end. If you missed us, check the wine hours in Valley III later.
I made a promise to start blogging substantial things again, but not till I'm done with the conference (which I shall blog) and my paper for the next conference ...

Kazoo meetup post #3 -- time adjustment?
Kazoo meetup post #3 -- time adjustment?
Ok -- is anybody actually planning on going to the plenary? Because I've been reminded that 7:30 is awfully early, and the first actual session isn't till 10 ... so I'm thinking 7:45 or 8 might be a bit more civilized ...
Otherwise, I'll be there at 7:30, I guess, with some sort of super-sekrit token of my identity.

Second Notice -- Kazoo Blogger Meet-up
Second Notice -- Kazoo Blogger Meet-up
Hey, all -- I noticed elsewhere that people were asking about the meet-up, so here are the details again. I am pretty sure the name of the coffee shop is Mug Shots, if anyone can confirm. Please feel free to pass on the info.
See you there!

Official Kazoo Blogger meetup?
Official K'zoo Blogger meetup? first notice
Dr Virago wanted somebody else to organize the festivities this year. I think it would be great to go out for drinks. I plan to go out for drinks. But evenings are harder to plan. So ... I suggest that we have one official meetup, and maybe a few other "if anybody is around at X, I'll be there" meetups. Speaking of which, I think Karl Steele is the only blogger I've ever seen at the cheap wine hours (not counting Cranky, but I spend as much time as possible hanging out with my academic sib).
But anyway -- providing the same coffee shop is still available (it's in the building with the dining hall, right?) from around 7:30 till whenever on Friday morning?
Yeah, it's vague. Sue me and/or help with the details. All I know is that I drag my ass out of bed and either get on the shuttle or meet up with NK for a ride, because she always has a car, and we toodle off and I follow other bleary-eyed medievalists who take over a huge space and gain the glares of our peers.

Late AHA blogging
Late AHA blogging
Right -- so it's been ages. I can only say that I came home from AHA to prep and moving office, which has been very interesting. That and start of the semester. Serious blogging to re-commence soon, as part of my goal to write something purposeful every day. But for now, I am posting Blogger meet-up pix -- dinner with Pilgrim/Heretic. Sorry about the focus -- I'm still learning to use the new camera and also, I need new glasses.
P/H, her LWI, and I went to a place for dinner where we could order lots of small things and share. Here's what we had. Apologies for not cutting -- I can't remember the code at the moment.
Out of focus, but this is a lovely field greens salad big enough for three. Very nice vinaigrette -- just simple and tasty.
Pizza Margherita -- close to perfect, I thought.
A Quail! on Polenta! with lovely little olives!
One of the many good things about blogger dinners is finding you and your friends have similar tastes. The menu offered several sardine preparations, and we were all of one mind that they needed to be included. We chose the most simple variation -- salted sardines with butter and lovely bread.

My personal favourite: duck and rabbit rillettes. Very rich, and delicately seasoned. yum!
Add wine/beer, and it was very nice. But really, as wonderful as the food was, it ws nothing compared to the company. If ever I find myself regretting blogging, I will be able to argue that it has done me far more good than ill. Through this blog, I have made friends who I know will be RL friends for life. How cool is that?

AHA Meet-up
AHA Meet-up (eta: Saturday Morning)
In an attempt to accommodate flow, variable traffic, and lots of running in and out, we're going for the cafe option, which always works well at the Kazoo meet-ups. Through the kindness of a bloggy friend who knows the territory far better than I, a venue has been chosen:
Cafe International, 2633 Connecticut Ave, just across Connecticut from the Woodley Park metro entrance. The map in the AHA Program should suffice to get you there.
It opens at 7:00 a.m., and that's when we'll meet (early birds willing to help stake out seats are welcome!). I'll be leaving in time to get to session 96 at the Marriott at 9, but obviously people can hang out as long as they want!
ETA: Feel free to pass the message. As usual, anonymity and pseudonymity to be respected as necessary!
