Shopping Bleg

Shopping Bleg -- a public service for those in denial about term starting

OK. I'm on a limited budget and need clothes. I need (and this really is more need than want, I think -- I want a pair of black boots, but I don't really need them so probably won't spend money I don't have on them). You know.
So anyway, I need a dress or two for going out, but not too dressy. And good for travel. Something I could wear for academic things, but also for a nice dinner out at a place where gentlemen would be expected to wear jackets and ties. And suitable for cool weather. So I'm thinking I would like something knit, but not too synthetic because sweaty, in black and/or chocolate brown. 3/4 sleeves would be good.

The other thing I need is the thing I couldn't find last year. A skinny, ribbed turtleneck in mostly silk or wool (or even cotton) with enough lycra or spandex to help it keep its shape, but again, not too synthetic. It should be beige/cream/oatmeal... and maybe chocolate. Alternatively, I might have to start haunting the local discount stores for more skinny v-neck, 3/4 length sweaters, but I really do want a couple of flattering and clingy turtlenecks. So if you have suggestions ...

Hmm. I bought some t-necks like that a few seasons ago and will have to try to remember where. Maybe even Eddie Bauer - ? It sounds like NK and MW did some excellent Eddie Bauer shopping, including a likely-sounding dress. I'll keep my eye out around the web for other ideas.

Yeah -- I saw that one, and need to check it out. Wrap fronts and I don't always get on, unfortunately.

If you do find such a turtleneck, please post. I'm now in a cold climate, and could use some, but something a bit nicer than the plain cotton/synthetic ones from Old Navy that i always seem to end up with.

Ann Taylor Loft used to do some nice ones, but I haven't seen any in a couple of years ...

I occasionally find lovely pieces at Coldwater Creek -- they do nice 3/4 length sleeve tops and a lot in travel knits.

I usually like J.Jill and they're pretty good online. Lots of sale stuff, too.

Eileen Fisher's clothes are expensive (even on sale) but worth it--they keep their shape and fit well and tend to last and last.

I have a pair of black boots that are old but hardly worn. If you want them and want to pay for shipping and their your size, I'll send 'em to you:) They are size 9, I believe. They are flat boots and the leather goes up to your knee, or you can fold it down (which it has been folded down all these years) and it's above your calf.

(I'm here via celandineb from LJ in a roundabout fashion:))
